What this site is
NC Offender Map publishes a read-only, static snapshot of publicly available North Carolina sex offender registry records alongside public and charter school locations, so visitors can see registered addresses in relation to nearby schools. This site is an independent, unofficial project. It is not affiliated with, and is not endorsed by, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) or any other state agency.
Data sources
- Offender registration records are sourced from the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry, published by the NCSBI at sexoffender.ncsbi.gov.
- School locations are sourced from publicly available North Carolina public and charter school directories.
How the map is built
Each registered address is geocoded to an approximate latitude/longitude, using the registered street address where it can be matched, and falling back to a ZIP code centroid when it cannot. Because of this, some points reflect an approximate area rather than an exact rooftop location. "Nearby" offenders on a school page are calculated using straight-line (great-circle) distance from the school, not driving distance, and are limited to a 3-mile radius.
Update schedule
The full site — offender records, addresses, and county/school pages — is rebuilt from the registry on a weekly basis. Address and ZIP-centroid geocoding is refreshed on a monthly cadence. The current snapshot's build time is shown at the top of the home page and on every county page.
Limitations & corrections
This site reproduces public records as published and may lag behind, omit, or mis-locate individual entries due to geocoding limitations, registry update timing, or data-entry issues in the source records. It should not be used as a substitute for the official registry. For the authoritative, current record on any individual, or to report an error in an official registration, use the official NCSBI registry directly.
